Dutch [Red] Square

Tourist walked around Red Square.

If you've ever seen other bloggers writing about Melaka, there is definitely an area that has never been forget to write because this area is indeed well known by both local and foreign tourists πŸ˜„ the name of the area is Dutch Square which is also known as Red Square due to the color of the buildings which are red ~ 😁

As a tourist, I also wanna see the original shape of the Dutch Square, so that's why I went to Dutch Square escorted by a GRAB driver 😁 By the way from Rosa Malacca hotel to Dutch Square is only 1km with a GRAB rate around 5 MYR (USD 1++) ✌ I went down right in front of Dutch Square, which was already full with visitors.

Ah, and if you want to use GRAB taxi to Dutch Square, you better go before 4 p.m, because after that you will get traffic jam HAHAHA ~ Maybe because a lot of people want to go to Jonker Night Market as well. Yeah, as I said in my previous post, I visited Melaka on weekends for the sake of Jonker Night Market because it only opens when weekend (Friday - Sunday) πŸ˜πŸ‘Œ

Long story short, I was finally able to see the buildings in Dutch Square, where some of the buildings are historical relics from the Dutch, Britain, and Portuguese colonial times with a lilbit touch of China era. Now, in this post I want to briefly write about the history of the buildings that I saw before πŸ˜„ please read until the end!

Stadthuys is right behind the clock tower.

The first is Stadthuys or in English means City Hall ~ This building was built in 1650 as a Dutch government office. For those of you who don't know, Malaysia is also a Dutch colonial like Indonesia before it was finally taken over by a Great Britain. And the history said, Stadthuys is the oldest Dutch building in Melaka which still standing strong until now 😁 At this time, the function of Stadthuys has been transformed into a 400-year history museum of Melaka which also tells about the glory of Melaka πŸ˜„πŸ‘Œ too bad, i didn't go inside.

Christ Church Melaka.

Eniho, gerejanya masih berfungsi sampai sekarang 😁
The second building which is located on the left side of Stadthuys is Christ Church, which is the oldest protestant church in Melaka and was built in 1741. Historically, this church was built because the Dutch wanted to replace St. Paul church which was the result of Portuguese era that has been damaged. So this Christ Church is also a historical witness of how the Dutch colonized Malaysia in the past, until finally Britain took over and changed all the colors of the church to red. Anyhow, the church is still functioning until now 😁

Malacca Art Gallery.

And the third building that stands on the left side of Christ Church is Malacca Art Gallery, which was built in 1958. The building was built to facilitate art activities in Melaka and is still used as a museum to store art from Malaysian artists. I personally only look at it from the outside because the museum was closed when I arrived πŸ˜‚✌

Tan Beng Swee Clock Tower.

And for the last is Tan Beng Swee Clock Tower which is a gift from one of Chinese millionaire named Tan Jiak Kim. So Tan Jiak Kim gave a clock tower fulfill his father (Tan Beng Swee) wish in the past ~ besides that, Tan Beng Swee's father named Tan Kim Seng was also the one who gave a bridge right across the clock tower. So, if we want to go to Jonker Night Market from Dutch Square, we will definitely pass the bridge which is still standing strong until now πŸ˜„

Victoria Water Fountain.

Actually there is one more which is Victoria Water Fountain and it's a relic from Great Britain but I don't have a clear photo of it HAHAHA because there were too many people when I visited there ~ So if you want to capture Victoria Water Fountain is definitely not easy πŸ˜‚ and, next to Victoria Water Fountain is exactly 'I LOVE MELAKA' big sign so indeed the area is the busiest photo spot for tourists who want to take a picture with friends and family ~

Anyway, is there anyone who wants to go to Melaka soon? Please don't forget to visit the Dutch Square, I guarantee you will not regret it because there are many things that we can see and learn there. In addition, there are also some interesting tourist attractions not far from Dutch Square area that I will give a short review about it on the post All About Melaka (likely I will publish it tomorrow). Hopefully this time my information is useful and see you again 😍
